This was an ongoing project we completed. With the plumbing for the kitchen and bathroom finished and all pc items installed, tested and commissioned. This project used an array of tools including drills, hand tools, grinder, reciprocating saw, concrete cutting saw and jack hammer. This project had its challenges when we came across a very thick concrete slab that had to be cut and jack hammered to allow new drains to be installed.

Precision Plumbing for a Modern Home: Kitchen and Bathroom Installation in Wollongong
Plumbing plays a crucial role in every home renovation, ensuring the functionality and reliability of essential systems. At Robert Watene Plumbing, we take pride in delivering precise, high-quality workmanship for residential projects across Wollongong and beyond. One of our recent projects highlights the expertise and technical detail involved in installing plumbing systems for both a new kitchen and bathroom during a home renovation.
Understanding the Project Scope
This residential renovation in Wollongong involved a full plumbing installation for a new kitchen and bathroom. From laying new pipework to fitting and testing all fixtures, the goal was to deliver a complete, dependable, and efficient plumbing system that met both design and compliance standards.
The work required us to:
- Set up new water supply and drainage systems.
- Install all plumbing fixtures and fittings for sinks, showers, toilets, and kitchen appliances.
- Pressure-test the entire system for leaks and functionality.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Standards.
Our team worked closely with the builders and designers to make sure that every outlet, connection, and fixture aligned with the client’s renovation plans.

Technical Challenges and On-Site Solutions
Every project has its challenges, and this one needed both precision and persistence. During excavation, we came across a very thick concrete slab that needed to be cut and jackhammered before the new drainage lines could be installed.
To effectively manage this, we sectioned the slab with a concrete cutting saw and a reciprocating saw before jackhammering it to reach the appropriate depth for the drains. The process necessitated careful handling to avoid structural damage while maintaining the correct pipe gradient for optimal flow and drainage.
Once the slab was opened, new drains were installed to support both the kitchen and bathroom layouts. Our team used PVC pipes, primer, and plumbing-grade adhesive to secure every joint and connection, maintaining watertight integrity throughout the system.

Final Installation and Testing
After completing the drainage and water systems, our team installed and commissioned all plumbing fixtures, including:
- Bathroom taps, basin, toilet, and shower.
- Kitchen sink, tapware, and dishwasher connections.
- Hot and cold water lines for both spaces.
Before sign-off, we conducted pressure and functionality tests on all installed systems to guarantee leak-free functioning. The end result was a smooth and efficient plumbing setup, ready for the client’s final touches.
Why Precision Matters in Residential Plumbing
A renovation’s success often depends on what’s behind the walls and under the floor. Properly installed plumbing ensures not only daily convenience but also long-term reliability and compliance with safety regulations. Poor drainage or misaligned pipework can lead to future blockages, leaks, and expensive repairs, all of which our team works tirelessly to avoid.
At Robert Watene Plumbing, every project reflects our commitment to excellence, from the first trench to the final tap test. Our team’s experience with complex residential systems ensures that every home remodelling runs smoothly, safely, and to the highest professional standards.
